Extension, Postwick

Our clients required an extension to an existing detached house, situated on a large, heavily wooded site in a small village just outside Norwich. They required a garden room which could be used all year round and a light, airy office/study.

It quickly became clear that the most suitable form for the extension was to 'extrude' the existing single storey wing towards the southern boundary. The three ground floor external walls are fully glazed to give views of both the front and rear garden areas. The first floor end gable is also fully glazed to give the maximum possible light to the office/study. The roof oversails the glazed gable to give protection from the sun during the summer months, whilst still allowing the winter sun to penetrate the habitable areas. The extension is principally of timber construction.
